Sodium

For pastures sodium is normally not favourable for the growing of the grass, but solely measured for the effect of the sodium content of the grass. Sodium is important for the health and production of livestock. Sodium is also important for beetroots.
On clay- and sandy-clay soils, sufficient sodium is administered through regular doses of stable manure. This is not so much the case with sand soils, where sodium is washed out more quickly. Sodium can be found in agricultural salt, nitrate of soda, sea salt and, to a lesser degree, in some types of potassium salt. If the assessment is "low" and "very low", then an extra dose is desirable for the crops mentioned in this section in the form of the concentrated fertilizers mentioned here above.
When hay or silage contains a too low concentration of sodium, extra sodium chloride salt can be fed.
